Regular readers know that it’s been my lifelong destiny to be a PTA homeroom mother. Preschool Easter parties are just another moment for me to practice for the big stage - elementary school.
I’ve mentioned Boo Boo Bunnies on this blog before, but I thought they would be the perfect craft for a 2.5-year-old Easter party. Let’s face it, 1st graders will be way too cool for something called a “Boo Boo Bunny.” Oh and it's not candy. Let's face it. There is too much of that around Easter!
The idea around the Boo Boo Bunny is that the body of the rabbit can hold an ice cube in the case...of well a boo boo.
Creating these little guys (and gals) was a team effort. The hubs purchased the first round of “pastel washcloths” and I put my mom to work making some bunnies.
These are so easy to make and would also be perfect for a bunny-themed birthday party or baby shower.
Here’s what you need:
- Washcloths - I’d recommend the thinnest ones you can find. While I used some festive colors from Target, they were a bit too thick.
- Rubber bands
- Ribbon
- Tag that explains what you do
- Googley eyes
- White puff balls for nose
- White puff balls for the tail
Step 1: Fold the washcloth to make a triangle
Step 2: Roll the washcloth tight from the small, top end where the triangle meets.
Step 3: Fold the washcloth in half again. I tried to make the fold either in the middle of the body or near the bottom (apologies that this photo could look like something else. I totally picked the wrong color for this DIY lol).
Step 4: Form the face. Get your rubber band ready for this step. I tried to not make the front of the face have a crease, but some bunnies weren’t as corporative than others.
Step 5: Add ribbon/tag. I created some tags with a poem on them, punched a hole in the corner and added them to the ribbon before I tied it in a bow, but as they say “you do you.” Make that bunny your own.
Step 6: Add eyes, nose and tail.
For my tag, I found multiple poems online and purchased some Easter-themed watercolor graphics from one of my favorite Etsy shops - Paper Sphinx. Rather than just borrow images from the internet, I’ve been buying clip art. It’s cost-effective and supports the local maker community.
If you attempt a Boo Boo Bunny, let me know how it goes and if my instructions were clear!
