The Nutcracker: Act Four - Snowflakes

Monday, December 05, 2011

In The Nutcracker, the Waltz of the Snowflakes is one of the best known dances in the play. Typically snowflakes are things that most people WANT to avoid, but sometimes snow is just so darn pretty. You know, when big chunks are slowly falling. I call that “snowglobe snow.”

Thanks to global warming, we’ve had a really mild fall / winter so if you are looking for some snowflakes, may I suggest these options…

·         Tiffany & Co. makes a cute silver snowflake charm (there’s also a necklace and affordable ornament)
·         Philosophy is my go-to shower gel of choice. Exclusively for Nordstrom, Philosophy is making a holiday set called snow kisses. Perfect to stock in your bath for guests or purchase for your favorite hostess!
·         The MOMA store has this super fun snow globe ring that makes an amazing stocking stuffer
·         Okay, so this snowglobe isn’t techniqually a snowflake, but it holds a special place in my heart. You see, one very early morning during the hectic holiday travel season, I tried to get this through airport security and they wouldn’t let me because it is considered a liquid, so I cried. Those who know me know that I never cry, so that’s a big deal. I never got it back! Sniff. Anyways, Saks makes these for a number of cities! Just don’t try to pack them in your carryon : (
·         A festive sweater is seriously a must to have in your closet. I like this black and white number from J. Crew because it could be stylist at an ugly sweater party, but you can also wear it seriously at work.
